Research That Had Nowhere to Go — Until Now
The Research Innovation and Scientific Entrepreneurship (RISE) Foundation IISER was established as a Section 8 non-profit company at the IISER Kolkata campus at Mohanpur in Nadia with the idea of being an entrepreneurship hub. Supported by the NIDHI-TBI scheme of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and IISER Kolkata itself, this is what helped us build out the state-of-the-art facilities we now offer startups.
We started because there was serious research happening at IISER Kolkata, that had nowhere to go once it left the lab — no infrastructure, no mentorship pipeline, no route to investors who would understand it. That's the gap RISE Foundation is working to bridge.
Mission
To translate the ideas and IP emerging out of IISER Kolkata and the nearby research institutions to real economic activity for the region — jobs, companies, growth that would not have happened otherwise.
Vision
IISER Kolkata and other nearby institutes are really doing high-quality research. We are dedicated to ensuring that research does not stay in the lab but rather evolves into an innovation ecosystem where science and entrepreneurship keep feeding each other.
